You Might be a Liberal

You Might be a Liberal 5/25/2006

If you believe most musicians and Hollywood stars are brilliant, you might be a liberal – fooled by liberal propaganda.

If you blame America first for most problems in the world, you might be a liberal. If you believe America is great because of government and progressive politicians rather than the Constitution and freedom, you might be a liberal. If you see the President, the FBI and CIA as the enemy, you might be a liberal. If you think the war on terror is the President and his friend’s pursuit of wealth, you might be a liberal. And most importantly, if you think only certain people can handle democracy, you might be a liberal, as well as a heretic.

If you think capitalism is the cause of all our problems, and that corporations are the greatest threat to America, you might be a liberal. If you believe in tariffs, trade barriers, interference and mercantilism, rather than free trade, you might be a liberal. If you think government should provide jobs rather than corporations, and think private businesses should have limits on their profits or windfall profit taxed – regardless of ethical and lawful trading, you might be a liberal. If you believe that comprehensive regulation is best for new business start-ups, you might be a liberal – and a great threat to liberty and prosperity.

If you think taxes are a good thing and that the IRS should be an ever-growing coercive force, you might be a liberal. If you see poverty as something the government should cure rather than self initiative, you might be a liberal. If you believe that equality of results is the highest moral principle of society and your neighbor is responsible to pay for your medical bills, you might be a liberal. If you think that your grandchildren and posterity should pay for your retirement with a Ponzi scheme that requires an ever-growing population with exponential payroll tax increases, you might be a liberal.

If you feel that America should be divided up among class, race, gender or ethnicity to divvy up tax revenues equally, you might be a liberal. If you think that each class division is victimized and exploited by the other, you might be a liberal. If you are fixated on shameful but ancient American slavery practices as a crime of the blood, and all Americans, even unrelated, are thus guilty and must pay continuously for the deeds of our ancestors, you might be a liberal.

If you expect the federal, rather than your state government and governor to provide disaster assistance, help with relocation and rebuilding, you might be a liberal. If you think Washington should swoop into a state and take over like some god or super-hero, you might be a liberal – and you have not read the Constitution and recognize state sovereignty guaranteed by the 10th Amendment or Posse Comitatus prohibitions.

If you are infuriated by religious proselytizers so much you would limit their 1st Amendment rights, you might be a liberal. If you are an atheist; or rationalize that biblically mentioned moral standards are religious-based and therefore excluded from the law as “separation of church and state,” you might be a liberal. If you believe that the only moral standard addressed by legislation is equality and distribution of the wealth, you might be a liberal. If you think certain classes should have special protections and hiring priorities based on sexual behavior, you might be a liberal.

If you think every “public good” invented in the minds of politicians trumps private property, you might be a liberal – and in collusion with a larcenous conspiracy. If you are compulsively “green” or if you believe all undeveloped land must be left pristine, even if it is privately owned, then you might be a liberal. If you are never satisfied with “green” legislation that invades privacy and steals land, you might be a liberal. If you think America should resist developing oil resources, protest nuclear energy, refining, offshore energy sources or coal use; in general frustrate all attempts at energy independence, you might be a liberal.

If you would save a drowning animal rather than a despicable human, you might be a liberal. If you think animals have a greater right to the land than humans; that any disturbance of an ecosystem is foolish, you might be a liberal. If you believe when predatory animals attack humans it is always the humans fault, and that sharks that attack are mistaking you for a seal, and if it only knew you were a human it would leave you alone, you might be a liberal – and a fool engaged in anthropomorphism.

Nuclear Coercion

On 3/28/06 The Chairman of the 9/11 Commission, Governor Kean told the Senate; “. . . A nuclear event is possible, and it would have profound and incalculable consequences and change our way of life. . . . Why isn’t there greater media interest?” (C-span)

The answer is that America is in denial of an unbearable reality. Denial made possible by the notion that we are invincible has poisoned us with overconfidence. We are unable to discern the enormous threat of kamikaze nuclear warfare.

Denial is a form of ignorance; we cannot imagine Islamic fascists have more in mind than mass murder. It was Hussein’s advisor Tariq Aziz’s strategy, in tapes released by ABC; “This is not done by a state (WMD attack); no need to accuse a state, an individual can do it. Even an American individual in a house, close, to the White House; I mean, they don’t have a logical argument.” http://abcnews.go.com/images/International/saddam_transcript060217.pdf

While no country can defeat America, nuclear treachery can. No need for importation; close is a catastrophe. Missiles are not needed with suicide, merely small watercraft. A stateless cabal in secret collusion with a revolutionary Islamic state will accept responsibility. Uncertain of where the shooter is, we may suffer the same fate as 1945 Japan, unable to retaliate against a stateless enemy and vulnerable to nuclear coercion.

After twenty years of Islamic revolutionary activities, Iran is at the threshold of acquiring The Bomb. Its vows of violence and the readiness of "40,000 martyrs" are dismissed as bluster even as they are about to go nuclear. Weapons grade uranium was uncovered there in May. An alarm should be sounding but there is widespread complacency and resistance. Deeply divided, we are considering appeasing fanatics on a mission from God and running away.

But appeasement will not bring peace; there will be no end to enemy demands. And running away will only bring the violence back home. We must wage the war in the Middle East or wage it here. God help us.
